A latch assessment is a structured, hands-on evaluation of how your baby attaches to the breast. During this session, I will:
Observe nursing mechanics and positioning
Evaluate baby’s latch and mouth anatomy
Assess whether milk transfer is effective
Identify sources of discomfort for you
Offer real-time guidance and repositioning
Demonstrate techniques that support a comfortable latch
The goal is to empower you with understanding and confidence so that nursing becomes more comfortable and productive over time.
A latch assessment can help families who are experiencing:
Breastfeeding discomfort or pain
Nipple soreness or damage
Poor milk transfer
Fussiness at the breast
Baby slipping off the breast frequently
Concerns about milk supply or weight gain
Difficulty maintaining a latch
Whether you’re just getting started or you’ve been nursing for weeks, an assessment can clarify what’s going well — and what support will help you feel more comfortable and confident.
Latch assessments are offered as:
In-Person Visits
A relaxed, mother-centered appointment where I observe a feed, assess technique, and work with you step-by-step to support improvement.
Virtual/LIVE Video Consultations
A flexible option for families who prefer remote support. Using clear video observation, I can still assess latch mechanics and guide positioning in real time.
Each session includes:
Time to discuss feeding goals and history
Observation of multiple nursing tries
Hands-on coaching and feedback (in person)
Personalized feeding recommendations
A written care plan to support practice at home
The latch is not just about attachment — it’s about comfort, efficiency, and building a positive feeding relationship. A comfortable, effective latch:
Reduces pain and frustration
Encourages stronger milk transfer
Helps build your confidence as a feeder
Supports long-term breastfeeding goals
Every body and every baby are different. A professional assessment makes sure the strategies you’re using are right for you — not just “textbook.”
